Jack Frost

Jack Frost is a popular, visually distinct hybrid strain of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, renowned for its albino, "frosty" appearance. It is a cross between Albino Penis Envy (APE) and True Albino Teacher (TAT), designed to combine high potency with unique aesthetic characteristics.

Key Characteristics and Appearance

    • Appearance: They are known for having ghostly white caps, dense stems, and gills that often turn a brilliant blue color as they mature.
    • Structure: They often feature flat, white caps and thick stems, sometimes referred to as looking like "snow-capped mountains".
    • Spore Formation: Jack Frost is famous for being heavily "frosty," often developing thick mycelial coatings, and is sometimes nearly sporeless.
  • Potency: While specific data is anecdotal, the lineage (APE x TAT) indicates that it is considered highly potent within the P. cubensis species.

Cultivation and Research

  • Grower Experience: It is generally considered a slow-growing strain compared to others, with long waits between the appearance of primordial and actual pinning.
  • Sensitivity: This strain is often considered better for experienced growers rather than beginners, as it can be sensitive to environmental changes, requiring precise humidity and air exchange.
  • Microscopy: Due to its active nature, the spores and liquid cultures are primarily sold for microscopy, research, and hobbyist collection.

A.P.E.#6

PE6 (Penis Envy 6) is a hybrid psychedelic mushroom strain, often crossing the potent, thick-stemmed Penis Envy with a standard Psilocybe cubensis variety. It is known for having a faster growth rate and producing more spores than typical Albino Penis Envy (APE), while offering high potency. It is sold primarily for microscopy research.

  • Strain Origin: The PE6 strain is a hybrid created to combine the potency of the Penis Envy strain with the more robust growth characteristics of standard cubensis strains, often creating a hybrid with distinct, often thinner stems than traditional PE.
  • Characteristics: Unlike the albino, often stubby, and low-spore-producing original APE, PE6 frequently displays a "standard" cubensis look (brown caps, normal size) while retaining high-potency genetic characteristics.
  • Usage: PE6 spores are utilized for microscopy research and identification.
  • Effects: Similar to other P. cubensis strains, it contains psilocybin and psilocin, which are controlled substances. It is considered highly potent.

3rd Eye

"Third Eye Mushroom" most commonly refers to a specific, potent hybrid strain of psychedelic mushrooms developed

    • Strain Genetics: The CC 3rd Eye is a hybrid created by crossing Smurf Berry with Wormhole (SV-10 ISO).
    • Characteristics: It is described as an albino variety that is easy to grow, robust, and fast-maturing, featuring distinct dark centers.
    • Potency: The strain is marketed as having very high potency and being ideal for cultivators seeking a resilient yet powerful addition to their collection.

Bluie Vuitton

Bluey Vuitton is a designer strain of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms known for its unique appearance and high potency, often characterized by dense, velvety, tan bulbous caps and thick stems that bruise deeply blue. It is a hybrid created by crossing Panama and Melmac PE (a Penis Envy variant).

Key Details about Bluey Vuitton:

    • Origin: First created by a mycologist known as “Silly Cybin” in 2014.
    • Appearance: Mature fruits have thick, fat stems and large, velvety tan caps that develop blue tinting. It is known for its eccentric, irregular, and often "monstrous" cap formations.
    • Characteristics: It is popular in cultivation communities for its intense blue bruising, which indicates high concentrations of active compounds (psilocybin/psilocin)

INTERGALACTIC HANDGRENADE

Grenade fungi are fictional, explosive flora native to the Star Wars moon Yavin 4, described in Legends lore. They are grey-blue fungi that grow up to 0.5 meters in diameter on the jungle floor, maturing into a hard, white shell that detonates upon disturbance, showering spores that can choke nearby creatures.

Key Information about Grenade Fungi (Yavin 4):

  • Appearance: Subterranean when young, they appear as bulges in leafmold before emerging as large, grey-blue, scaly fungi.
  • Behavior: They mature into a brittle, white, globular shell. Delicate disturbances can break this shell.
  • Detonation: When broken, they burst with a loud bang, releasing a cloud of spores. The concussion can set off nearby grenade fungi in a chain reaction.
  • Habitat: Common in the jungle systems of Yavin 4, often found in rings during the dry season.

Orcha

Psilocybe ochraceocentrata is a newly identified species of psychoactive, or "magic," mushroom discovered in Zimbabwe and South Africa, officially described in 2024–2025. It is considered the closest known wild relative to the widely cultivated Psilocybe cubensis and was previously misidentified due to its similar appearance and habitat, specifically growing on herbivore dung.

Key Information on Psilocybe ochraceocentrata

  • Name Origin: The name refers to the distinct "ochre-yellow" center found on the cap of the mushroom.
  • Discovery: Researchers from the Natural History Museum of Utah and collaborators identified it as a unique species, distinct from P. cubensis, with genetic analysis suggesting they diverged roughly 1.5 million years ago.
  • Habitat and Ecology: Found in southern Africa (Zimbabwe and South Africa), these mushrooms thrive in grasslands on herbivore dung, pointing to a potential African origin for this lineage of psychoactive fungi.
  • Appearance: They are very similar to P. cubensis but have unique, consistent genetic and chemical traits.
  • Significance: The discovery is vital for understanding the evolution of psychoactive compounds in fungi and highlights that many species remain undocumented, especially in Africa.

azurescens

Psilocybe azurescens is one of the most potent known tryptamine-bearing psychedelic mushrooms, containing up to 1.8% psilocybin,  psilocin, and  baeocystin by dry weight. Known as "flying saucers" or "blue angels," they are recognized by their chestnut-brown, umbonate caps that bruise intense blue. They inhabit coastal areas, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, fruiting in cold, wet weather on deciduous wood chips.

Key Characteristics

  • Appearance: Caps are 30-100 mm in diameter, initially conic to convex, becoming flatter with a distinct umbo (broad, rounded lump in the center). Color ranges from chestnut/caramel to straw-color when dry.
  • Stem: Silky white, 9-20 cm long, often with a white mycelial mat at the base.
  • Bruising: Extremely strong blue bruising occurs immediately upon damaging any part of the mushroom.
  • Spore Print: Dark purplish brown to purplish black.
  • Habitat: Thrives in sandy soils rich in lignin and on deciduous wood chips, especially in the Columbia River coastal area.
  • Habitat and Growing Conditions
  • Location: Found in the wild on the northern Oregon coast (near Astoria) and in parts of British Columbia. They have been introduced to other US regions (CA, NM, OH, WI, VT) and Europe.
  • Season: Late September through late December (after the first harsh frost).
  • Temperature: Fruits when temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).

Potency and Effects

  • Highest Potency: P. azurescens is considered one of the strongest in the Psilocybe genus.
  • Psychoactive Compounds: High levels of psilocybin and psilocin.
  • Effects: The mushroom is used for its intense hallucinogenic properties. It is often described as causing deep philosophical, visual, and energetic experiences.
  • Research: A 2026 study in rats suggested that very high doses of P. azurescens could lead to increased anxiety and depressive-like behaviors along with high neuroinflammation, though it is primarily known for its psychoactive effects.
